Tim McGraw for governor of Tennessee? It could work! | The Dish Rag | Los Angeles Times «
As someone who grew up listening to pop-country (ages 6-10), and a former resident of Tenn., this is a bit surprising. On the one hand, McGraw represents a return to form for the Democratic Party. Despite being the offspring of MLB Closer Tug McGraw, Tim has the Southern thing (to steal a Drive-By Truckers motif) written all over him. On the other, he has no political experience whatsoever, and has stretched from being a musician into being an actor. Not much growth there, really. Tennessee may not seem like a complicated state to run, but that’s just stereotype. There’s the handling of TennCare (TN’s version of MediCare), the faltering education system, and well, UTK got a new football coach (this is important). Better than Bill Frist? Probably.
